Halloween: The Game Controls and Camera

What previews have confirmed, what is typical for third-person horror, and what is still unpublished.

Controls

Halloween: The Game is a third-person slasher. You spend most of a match over the shoulder, whether you are Myers walking a dark lawn or a civilian dragging a neighbor toward a phone. The one major camera exception is Killer Sense, which puts Myers into first person behind the mask. This page records what previews have actually shown, then labels typical third-person patterns as typical. It does not invent a complete official keyboard or controller table, because IllFonic has not published a full remap chart ahead of the September 8, 2026 launch.

If you are still choosing a role, start from the Guides Hub and then read Getting Started. If you already know you want the knife or the flashlight, jump to Play as Michael Myers or Survive as a Civilian after you understand the camera.

What is confirmed

The game lists full controller support. That matters on PC as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Crossplay sessions will mix those devices, so a keyboard player should expect to share a lobby with people on sticks.

Killer Sense on PlayStation has been reported as R3, the right-stick click. That is the most specific published bind we are willing to treat as a preview fact. In that mode the camera sits inside the mask, breathing gets loud, and Myers builds stalk on whoever he focuses. You are not toggling a simple highlight overlay; you are changing perspective.

Preview sessions have also shown a Circle press used to shove on PlayStation, including a shove that does not require a weapon in hand. Treat that as a reported face-button interaction, not as a guarantee that Circle will be shove in every region, every accessibility preset, or every patch.

Remapping is not fully documented. Until a settings screen is public, assume you can swap sticks and maybe invert look, and do not plan a competitive layout around keys this wiki guessed.

Typical third-person patterns (not an official table)

Most third-person action games, including other IllFonic and Gun Interactive titles, use a familiar skeleton. The list below is that skeleton. It is here so a new player has somewhere to put their hands in a demo. It is not a claim that Halloween: The Game printed these binds in a manual.

  • Left stick or WASD: move. Myers often wants a walk, not a panic sprint, because his identity is the slow approach plus Shape Jump.
  • Right stick or mouse: camera. Civilians should sweep porches and windows. Myers should sweep darkness before committing Killer Sense.
  • South face button or space / interact: vaults, doors, phones, loot, NPC conversations.
  • Triggers or mouse buttons: attack, aim, or hold an item. Firearms and flashlights are civilian tools; the knife is Myers.
  • Bumpers or Q/E style keys: abilities. On Myers that is where Shape Jump, Shape Dash, Blackout, Detection Pulse, Shape Slip, and Reality Tear will likely live once the full kit is mapped.
  • Click right stick (R3 / RS): the reported Killer Sense toggle on PlayStation, and the analog you should check first on Xbox and PC controllers.

If a loading tooltip or in-game prompt disagrees with this list, trust the prompt. This page will be updated when a real settings dump exists.

How the camera changes the fight

Third-person is how civilians keep light in frame. You need to see porch lamps, headlights, and interior fixtures because Myers cannot enter or exit Shape Jump in direct light or while a civilian has line of sight. A player who never moves the camera is volunteering to be flanked through a hedge.

First-person Killer Sense is how Myers stalks. Stalk tiers improve tracking and executions. Spending the entire match in Killer Sense is a way to miss a civilian who is lighting the room you wanted to jump from. The Myers guide explains why you drop out of the mask to Blackout a street, then go back in to finish a stalk.

Civilians have their own camera jobs: watching NPCs you are escorting, checking closets for Shape Slip, and noticing whether a vehicle or flashlight just died because Myers used Blackout. The civilian guide covers those verbs. This page only cares that you can look at them.

Modes that change what you press

Story Mode is still third-person Myers with the same Killer Sense exception. Use it to feel Shape Jump and stalk without four humans contesting every bind. Offline bots are the same idea for 1v4 verbs.

Driving exists for Myers. Treat vehicle controls as unpublished beyond the fact that he can get behind a wheel. Do not assume a GTA-style radio wheel or a published handbrake key.

Maps change how often you need the camera more than they change the binds. East Haddonfield has long rural sightlines. Orange Grove Estates has multi-story interiors. Town Center has shop floors and a cemetery. Heights has hedges and the water tower. Same sticks, different places you must look.

PC players still need the system requirements conversation: a 30 fps minimum card will make look-aim feel heavier than a recommended GPU, and Easy Anti-Cheat has to be running before any of these binds matter in a public match.

Keep one controller profile for launch week and refuse to memorize a fan-made key table as if it were patch notes. The Shape does not need a hotbar with twelve confirmed keys; he needs you to click into the mask on purpose, walk when the camera is third-person, and leave Shape Jump before you step into a porch light. When IllFonic publishes a real remap screen, this page will stop hedging. Until then, the honest control guide is the one that admits what it has not seen.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is there an official full keybind list?

Not in the materials this wiki is willing to treat as fact. PlayStation previews have shown Killer Sense on R3. Everything else on this page is labeled typical or reported, not a published manual.

How do I use Killer Sense on PlayStation?

Previews have mapped Killer Sense to R3, the right-stick click. It drops the camera into first person behind the mask so Myers can stalk and build stalk tiers.

Can I remap controls?

Remapping is not fully documented yet. Expect basic stick and look options, but do not plan a layout around keys that have not appeared in a settings screen.

Does the PC version support a controller?

Yes. The game lists full controller support, and crossplay means PC players will share matches with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S pads.

Is Myers always in first person?

No. Default play is third-person. Killer Sense is the first-person stalk tool. Shape Jump, walking, driving, and most attacks are still over-the-shoulder.

What should I practice before launch?

Camera discipline. Civilians must keep lights and NPCs in frame. Myers must check darkness before Shape Jump and click into Killer Sense only when he intends to stalk.
